Abstract

1,125,826. Hand gripping-tools. C. KUHBIER. 16 Sept., 1966 [18 Sept., 1965], No. 41495/66. Heading B4W. A plier-type tool comprises a first jaw 1 attached to a handle 4 by a shank portion 5 and a second jaw 2 connected to a handle 3 by a shank portion 6, and a journal member 8 effecting the connection between the shank portion 6 and the handle 3 and engaging in one of a plurality of recesses 11, a projection 17 on the handle 3 engaging in a recess portion 21 in the shank 6 whereby the shank 6 is displaceable on the shank 5 to move the second jaw 2 towards and away from the first jaw 1 upon relative movement between the handles 3 and 4, the jaws remaining parallel to each other during their movement. An angled slot 16 is provided in the shank 6 to facilitate selective engagement of the member 8 in the recesses 11 when the handles are fully open. Key and slot means 24 to 26 are provided to permit smooth parallel relative movement between the shanks 5 and 6. Alternatively, a rib and slot arrangement may be provided between the sliding shank portions. The movement of the shank portion 6 and its jaw 2 is limited between a stop 28 on the handle 4 and an abutment 29 extending from the shank 5.
