[Also in Divisions A2 and A5] Glutamic acid derivatives of the formulµ where R is C 8-18 alkyl are prepared by reacting glutamic acid with the appropriate amine or alcohol, laurylamine, lauryl alcohol, capryl alcohol and and stearylamine are specified. The compounds are preservatives for preventing the contamination and deterioration of various substrates caused by micro-organisms.
