Abstract
1,125,734. Vacuum switch contacts. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 Aug., 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 37762/66. Heading H1N. The tubular contact stems of a vacuum switch contain an electrically and thermally conductive liquid 12 which in use of the switch is set in motion to transfer heat from the region of the contact surface. The liquid 12 is contained in a sealed capsule 10 which is shrunk into a bore of the contact. The liquid may be mercury or an alloy of 76À7% Potassium with Sodium. The capsule is of steel and the contact of a copper alloy. The liquid is set in motion by convection and/or by the electrical forces due to the current flowing through it.
