Abstract

1,125,545. Contact printing apparatus. ATELIERS BARIQUAND & MARRE. April 14, 1967 [April 18, 1966; Aug.26, 1966], No.17161/67. Heading G2A. Contact printing apparatus comprises a box 1 the top surface of which is a glass plate 2, and above which is mounted a hollow frame member 5 carrying a flexible sheet 3 of impervious material such as rubber. The original and copy are pressed together between sheet 3 and plate 2 when the exposure is made, and may have a half-tone screen between them. A sealing gasket 6 extends round the periphery of frame 5, and between gasket 6 and the outer edges of sheet 3 is a gap 7. A series of perforations 8 place the gap 7 in communication with the interior of the hollow frame 5, and hence when the latter is evacuated through a pipe 9, the space between sheet 3 and plate 2 is evacuated also. Frame 5 is locked down on to box 1 by means of latches 10, 11. The pressure between sheet 3 and plate 2 may be increased by closing frame 5 with an upper plate 15 and introducing air under pressure through a pipe 16. The light source 17 is mounted in a casing positioned obliquely at the top of box 1 so that it is approximately at the level of plate 2. The light is reflected from a mirror 23 on the floor of the box to illuminate plate 2 from below. A magazine containing various filters, coloured or neutral, can be slid in front of lamp 17, as at 19.
