A travelling wave tube used as an amplifier, for example in a beamed radio relay station, is also used to derive the modulation content of an input frequency-modulated signal by including a load impedance 9 in series with the power supply of the collector electrode or of the delay line. The load impedance may be a highfrequency choke or a filter.
