Abstract
1,125,041. Batteries. BURNDEPT Ltd. 8 July, 1965 [27 July, 1964], No. 29918/64. Heading H1B. A polymeric resin dissolved in an organic solvent is applied, e.g. by roller coating, to the outside of consumable anode 10, and the solvent is allowed to evaporate and the resin to cure to form a leakproof layer 12 on the anode 10. A formula for an epoxy resin coating is specified. A fibrous reinforcing filler may be added to the resin. The coating may extend over the entire exterior of cell, electrical contact with the electrodes being established by areas 13 of resin which have carbon or metal mixed therewith. A metal foil 28 is adhered to the conductive area 13. As shown the anode 10 is enclosed in a paper jacket 20 which is trapped between the turned over top of the anode and an internally coated metal lid 24. The portion 26 of jacket 20 between the lid and anode acts as a vent. The can may be zinc, aluminium, or magnesium.
