Abstract

Compounds of the general formula (I) <FORM:1124133/C2/1> (wherein R1 is alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, R2 is hydrogen, halogen, CF3, alkyl, alkoxy, or trialkoxy and R3 is alkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, a 5-membered heterocyclic group, phenyl, halophenyl, alkyphenyl, alkylhalophenyl, alkoxyphenyl, trialkoxyphenyl, alkylthiophenyl or dialkylaminophenyl) and their acid addition salts are prepared by heating a compound of the formula (II) <FORM:1124133/C2/2> with methanolic sodium methoxide, optionally followed by salt formation. The starting materials of formula (II) are prepared by heating a compound of the formula <FORM:1124133/C2/3> with R3NH2 in an inert solvent and in the presence of a catalyst to form a compound of the formula <FORM:1124133/C2/4> and reacting the latter with chloroacetyl chloride in an inert solvent. The compounds of formula (I) and their salts are antidepressants, sedatives and tranquillizers and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a carrier.
