Abstract
1,124,005. Finned heat exchange tubes. SOCIETE RUBANOX. 15 Feb., 1966 [26 Feb., 1965], No. 6533/66. Heading F4S. A natural convection heat exchanger, particularly intended for use as a condenser or evaporator, comprises a plate 2 and a sinuous tube 1 in heat conducting relation, and preferably integral, therewith, the tube comprising straight tube-lengths la, 1b interconnected by short U-shaped sections, the plate being provided with a fin arrangement comprising generally flat fins 14 which may be twisted out of the plane of the plate (Figs. 7-11) and cut-out fins 11, 15 of trapezoidal outline extending some to one side and some to the other of the plane of the plate, between the straight tube lengths la, 1b. As shown, fat fins 14 are located between adjacent cut-out fins 11, 15 which cut-out fins project alternately from opposite faces of the plate 2. The height (H, Fig. 3) of the cutout fins is greater than the height (h) to which the tube 1 projects from the plate 2. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 5, 6), different arrangements of flat fins and cut-out fins of differing heights are employed. In one embodiment (Fig. 10), in which the flat fins (29) are inclined to the plate in a direction parallel to the tube lengths, the tops of the cut-out fins (30, 31) are also inclined.
