Abstract
1,122,864. Discharging compressed gas containers. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. 22 Feb., 1967 [3 May, 1966], No. 19578/66. Heading F4P. An inflator (e.g. for a life jacket) comprises a container 11 for several removable bulbs 18 of compressed gas, several piercing devices 25, operable to pierce the bulbs in the container to cause these to discharge into an outlet 22, the piercing devices being actuated (e.g. by the passage of block 32 with a cam shaped bottom 33) in response to the movement of a single member e.g. a lanyard 34 and button 35. In the embodiment illustrated, the block 33 runs in a groove 31 in part 16 of the container 11, the piercing devices 25 are sealed by 0-rings 26. The bulbs 18 are here shown each in shaped cavities 17 in the container, whence they can be pushed out after removal of a cover (19) Fig. 2 (not shown) by putting a finger or thumb through a hole (25) in the face opposite the cover.
