Abstract

1,120,862. Jet propulsion. SHIPELLE Ltd. 27 Aug., 1965 [27 Aug., 1964], No. 35219/64. Heading B7V. A boat's water jet propulsion unit comprises a front inlet 17, a rear outlet 18, a base opening 19 arranged between the rear outlet 18 and the propeller 16, a vane 23 pivotally mounted on a central vertical spindle 24 and a semicircular lateral flange 33 horizontally formed at one side of the base of the vane. A flap 35 weighted at its rear end 40, is pivotally mounted under the base opening 19 on horizontal shaft 36. During normal forward drive, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) the vane 23 lies fore and aft and the flange 33 has part of its periphery housed in one of a pair of side channels 34. Neutral drive is provided by turning the vane 23 to close the rear outlet 18 with the flange 33 extended forwardly to close the base opening 19. When the vane 23 closes the rear opening with the flange 33 extended rearwardly, water flow is directed, downwardly through the unobstructed base opening 19 to cause flap 35 to dip and so provide reverse drive.
