A burner bar made from two sheet-metal channel members 10, 11 welded together has the upper surface of member 10 provided with pairs of transverse slits 12, 13 produced by shear forming so that the intervening part (14) is depressed below the inner surface of the upper wall of the member to form opposing ports the gas and air streams flowing through which impinge on one another. A flash tube 20 facilitates ignition and may be common to several bars.
