A seat or like platform a of resiliently extensible material has an integral or separately secured nucleus b of inextensible material. As shown the nucleus b comprises fabric reinforced rubber. The nucleus may comprise an array (Fig. 4) or separate nuclei b or parallel strips (Fig. 6). A strip (f, Fig. 5) may be of metal, duck, leather or plastics. Peripheral means for securing the platform to a rigid frame may comprise elements, c, eyes formed in the folded over margin, a rod (j) or a stiffening element (e, Fig. 3) engaged in an integral (i) or separately attached (d) hem, or an angle section bar (g).
