Abstract

A self-acting fastening device for cattle and the like comprises locking means for catching an engaging member secured to the neck of the animal, the locking means being arranged on a carrier supported for movement up and down and biased into its uppermost position. The carrier comprises a member 4 pivoted on pins 5 on posts 3 defining a stall, and biased upwardly by springs 6. The member 4 carries locking means 8 having a slot 9 and locking member 13 which is pushed back by an engaging member 10, 11 carried on the collar 12 of an animal reaching for fodder in trough 14. To enable the locking member 13 to be released from a central position, a rail 15 is pivotally attached to stall post 2 and is lifted by means of rope 18 against the action of spring 19 to press on a resilient rod 20 which via bar 21 turns member 13 about its pivot. The topmost position of the member 4 is defined by an adjustable chain 7. The collar 12 comprises a steel strip bent to U-shape and a bolt 25, and has a coating of soft material.
