Abstract
1,118,572. Aerials. NORTHROP CORP. 13 Jan., 1967 [16 Feb., 19661, No. 2026/67. Heading H4A. An aerial comprises an inverted conical member 1 in which there is a slot 5, an offset feed member 10 intersecting the side surface of the member 1, and a ground leg 7 connected to the member 1 near the slot 5. As described, the member 1 is frusto-conical in shape, with an apex angle, for example, of 60 degrees, and it is positioned above a conductive ground plate 4. The slot 5 is of uniform width and extends from the base 6 of the member 1 to its apex 2. A vertical conductive plate member 7 is connected to the member 1 near the slot 5 and extends to the plate 4, to which it is also connected. Additional mechanical support for the member 1 may be provided by insulating members 20. A feed cylinder 10 parallel to, and axially displaced from, the member 1 is shaped at its upper end to the surface of the said member 1, the intersection preferably extending the full length thereof. The lower end of the feed cylinder 10 terminates in an impedance matching cone 12 with an apex angle, for example, of 110 degrees, which is positioned slightly above the ground plate 4, and is connected to the central conductor of a coaxial feeder. The outer conductor of the feeder is connected to the ground plate 4. It is stated that the aerial radiates omnidirectionally, provides vertical polarization, and is effective over a wide frequency range.
