Abstract
Polyalkylated phenols are dealkylated in absence of a catalyst by reaction with at least 2 mols. H2 at 482-871 DEG C., the reaction being terminated at no more than 80% conversion. In an example, phenol and o- and m-cresols are obtained from cresylic acid.
