Abstract

A composition comprises by weight (a) 25 to 75 parts of an organosiloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer, in which the oxyalkylene blocks are attached to silicon via divalent hydrocarbon radicals, and (b) 25 to 75 parts of a nonaqueous silicon-free lubricant base fluid, based on 100 parts of the composition. The fluids (b) are polyoxyalkylene compounds of the formula G111(OG11)nOG111, wherein G111 is H or a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free of aliphatic unsaturation, G11 is an alkylene radical of at least 2 C atoms, and n is at least 4, dialkyl esters of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids and hydrocarbon lubricating oils, the preferred ones being di-(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate, paraffinic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and dibutyl ethers of polypropylene oxides. Of the numerous examples of optional conventional additives may be mentioned: extreme-pressure additives-alkylamine salts of acid alkyl esters of H3PO4; antiwear additives-neutral aryl-and alkylaryl-phosphates; metal deactivators-quinizarin; antioxidants-aromatic compounds containing amino, hydroxy or alkoxy substituents; and corrosion inhibitors-aminoorganosilicon compounds, alkali metal salts of carboxyorganosiloxanes, alkenyl-succinic acids, dialkyl acid phosphates, sorbitan mono-oleate, butyl naphthenate and butyl- and Al-stearates. The compositions may be thickened, e.g. with 5 to 30 pts. (by wt.) per 100 pts. of the composition, of SiO2 (fumed or aerogel), Al2O3, TiO2, Fe2O3 or Li-stearate, -hydroxystearate, -myristate or -octoate, to form greases. In a typical Example (1) a block-copolymer of the formula <FORM:1117771/C3/1> is mixed with an equal weight of a paraffinic lubricant base oil to form a lubricant for an I.C. engine. Uses.-As lubricants for metals and phonograph records; and as hydraulic fluids.ALSO:A composition comprises by weight (a) 25 to 75 parts of an organosiloxane-oxyalkylene block copolymer, in which the oxyalkylene blocks are attached to silicon via divalent hydrocarbon radicals; and (b) 25 to 75 parts of a non-aqueous silicon-free lubricant base fluid, based on 100 parts of the composition.
