Abstract

1,116,803. Telescopic rules. S.G. YOUNG. March 30, 1966 [March 31, 1965], No.13669/65. Heading G1M. A telescopic ruler of the kind described in copending Specification 1,113, 091 which can be releasably locked in an extended position comprises stops 3x in the retracted end of the or each inner staff and in the corresponding end of the outer staff, the stops being such that in the retracted position they abut against one another and absorb any impact caused by placing the said corresponding end 16 on the ground. The stops are preferably in the form of metal plugs which may be the same as the blocks 3 of co-pending Specification 1,113,091. In one embodiment holes are provided at both ends of the staffs to engage buttons 6x mounted on the said stops so that the staffs are releasably locked in both the extended and retracted positions. The locking force is desirably less in the retracted position than in the extended position.
