Abstract
1,115,588. Two or more saurees; control of electric motors. ITT INDUSTRIES Inc. 2 Dec., 1966 [6 Dec., 1965], No. 54108/66. Headings H2H and H2J. A load M such as a motor is energizable from one of two voltages through a resistor R v which is normally shunted by a transistor T s . When the higher voltage is applied to the circuit, a Zener diode Z breaks down, rendering a transistor T T conductive which cuts off transistor T s hence unshunting the resistor R v . Where the applied voltage changes gradually, e.g. when fed from a battery, a sharp transistion is effected by an optional resistor R R . The switching transistor T s may be replaced by a cascade arrangement of transistors, e.g. a Darlington pair. The arrangement may be adapted for more than two supply voltages.
