Abstract
Molecular sieves of uniform pore of size sufficiently large to absorb benzene and containing metals, or oxides thereof, in the inner absorption regions are used as catalysts and of the appropriate conditions and at elevated temperatures for the following reactions of hydrocarbons (1) hydrocracking, polymerization, alkylation, hydroforming, isomerization, or dehydrogenation, the metal being platinum, iron, cobalt or nickel, (2) hydrogenation, the metals being platinum, iron, cobalt or nickel, (3) hydrocracking, polymerization, hydroforming, hydrogenation or dehydrogenation, the metals being chromium, tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, or rhenium, (4) hydrocracking, polymerization, hydrogenation or dehydrogenation, the metal being copper and (5) polymerization, the metal being aluminium. Examples relate to (a) dehydrogenation of a tetralin to a naphthalene, cyclohexane to benzene, methylcyclohexane to toluene, and butanes to butenes; (b) hydrogenation of propylene to propane; (c) alkylation of benzene with ethylene; (d) hydrodealkylation of toluene; (e) oligomerization of isobutylene to give mainly dimer and trimer, and of propylene to a liquid polymer; (f) reforming of pentane, hexane, heptane and octane; (g) hydroforming of naphtha; and (h) hydrocracking of No. 2 fuel oil.ALSO:Molecular sieves of uniform pore size sufficiently large to absorb benzene and containing metals, or oxides thereof, in the inner absorption regions are used as catalysts. Specified metals are platinum, iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium, tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, or rhemium, copper and aluminium. Examples relate to (1) a Pt loaded Na-zeolite (2) Vanadium on zeolite X, (3) Cu on Na-zeolite X and (4) Al on Na-zeolite Y.
