Abstract
1,115,288. Dispersing gases in liquids; aerating liquids. EQUIPMENT ENGINEERS Inc. 10 June, 1966 [14 June, 1965], No. 25879/66. Headings B1C and B1F. Gas is dispersed in a liquid by introducing the liquid through pipe 13 tangentially into chamber 10 of circular cross section so that a vortex core 21 extending axially of the chamber is formed, and continuously introducing the gas into a peripheral annular region of the chamber through pipe 18, gas distributing means being provided adjacent the gas inlet, the treated liquid being removed through vortex finder pipe 16 and any centrifugally separated under flow solids being removed through valved outlet 12. The gas distributing means may comprise an annular skirt 19 mounted immediately above the pipe 18, or may comprise a foraminated wall (Fig. 4 not shown). Gas may be introduced at two axially spaced peripheral regions (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown), and gas may be added to the liquid prior to its introduction into the chamber. The liquid feed may be a sulphuric acid solution and the gas are containing sulphur dioxide. Also sewage plant effluent may be aerated by this method.
