Abstract

1,115,154. Ultrasonic oil burners. SIMMS GROUP RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 7Feb., 1966 [12 Nov., 1964], No. 46119/64. Heading F4T. streams of primary air, secondary air and tertiary air are supplied by a fan 4 to an ultrasonic oil burner 2. The primary air stream is coaxial with the oil burner 2. The secondary air surrounds the primary air stream and is swirled by curved vanes, not shown. The tertiary air is conveyed by a conduit, 16 including an adjustable orifice and is fed tangentially into the forward part of the burner casing 1. The oil burner 2 comprises an electrically energized oscillatable ceramic disc 10, a frusto-conical body portion 12, a cylindrical body portion 13 and a nozzle 3 of smaller diameter than the body portions 12, 13. The nozzle is supplied with fuel through a duct 8 in or external of the body portion 13 and comprises a plurality of discharge orifices in a transverse plane or the orifices are drilled in a conical end of the nozzle. A water heater comprises a first doublewalled sleeve (19, Fig. 2), in which the burner is mounted and a second double-walled sleeve (20) enclosing the first sleeve. Water circulates through the annular spaces formed by the double walls of the sleeves and the combustion products flow between the sleeves to a flue (21) in the outer sleeve.
