Abstract

Polyurethanes are prepared by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a hydroxyl group-containing polyether containing both oxyethylene and 1,2-oxypropylene units (of which the oxyethylene units constitute from 1-25% on a molar basis), and prepared by reacting an initiator containing active hydrogen atoms with ethylene oxide, if desired in admixture with a minor proportion of 1,2-propylene oxide, reacting the resulting polymer with 1,2-propylene oxide if desired in admixture with a minor proportion of ethylene oxide, and then reacting in a third stage with ethylene oxide. Conventional polyurethane forming catalysts may be included in the reaction mixture and foams may be obtained by adding a blowing agent.
