Abstract
1,114,859. Friction gearing. TRW Inc. 16 June, 1965, No.25501/65. Heading F2Q. An epicyclic reduction gear comprises an input roller 100, a ring 140 and sets of interengaged planetary rollers 110 . . . 112, 120 . . . 125, 130. . . 135 which are stepped, the larger step engaging a roller nearer the gear axis whilst the smaller step engages a roller or the ring 140 further from the gear axis. Each roller engages other rollers or the ring 140 at three points so that the whole assembly retains the relative positions shown without any supporting bearings. An output carrier 150 has slats 152 in which the shafts of the outer rollers 130 . . . 135 engage with radial freedom.
