Abstract

1,114,695. Thermal regenerators. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. 17 Aug. 1965 [20 Aug., 1964], No. 36186/65. Heading F4K. [Also in Division B3] The heat transfer mass of a thermal regenerator for use at low temperatures (e.g. below 100‹ K.) comprises a strip of material wound on a core 4 and placed in a cylindrical housing of slightly smaller diameter, the strip having ribs 3 to space adjacent turns and so define ducts 5 through the mass. The strip has a plurality of parallel rectangular perforations between adjacent ribs. The material of which the strip is made has a high specific heat at the low operating temperatures and is of, for example, lead of the order of 100Á in thickness with ribs 3 approximately 50Á in height and perforations of approximately 200Á by 50Á.
