Abstract
1,113,956. Radio navigation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 27 Aug., 1965, No. 36917/65. Heading H4D. Relates to a modification of a TACAN system wherein, in addition to the single lobe and the nine-lobe antenna system a three-lobe, threeantennae system is provided. At the receiver the 45 c/s. signal produced from the amplitude modulations of the received three-lobe radiation is used to control the passage of the 15 c/s. bearing signal to the phase comparator for comparison with 15 c/s. reference signal, in such a way that the effects of site distortion of the 15 c/s. bearing signal are reduced. In one embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), pulses having a width equal to 90 degrees of their respective signals are produced from the 15 c/s. and 135 c/s. bearing signals and the 45 c/s. signal and fed to a coincidence circuit. The coincidence circuit then produces pulses at 15 p.p.s. having a width equal to the 135 c/s. pulses and these pulses are fed to the phase comparator. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the 15 c/s. bearing signal is passed through a variable phase shifter, controlled by the 45 c/s. signal such that it is brought into phase therewith.
