Abstract

1,113,907. Supply systems for arc-welding apparatus. HITACHI Ltd. 20 Oct., 1966, No. 47043/66. Heading H2H. The operational stability of an alternating current arc-welding apparatus is enhanced by arranging that the waveform of the welding current is made to approximate to a square wave so that it has a lower peak value and a greater rate of change through the zero value than a welding current having a sinusoidal waveform. An A.C. welding electrode E and workpiece W is fed from the secondary winding S of a welding transformer T by way of a bridge configuration of silicon controlled rectifiers D 1 -D 4 across the D.C. terminals of which is connected an inductor L. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement wherein both an A.C. welding apparatus E 1 , W 1 and a D.C. welding apparatus E 2 ,W 2 can be used with the inductor L in the connections to the apparatus E 2 , W 2 . A switch is provided whereby terminals 11, 12 or terminals 13, 14 may be short-circuited to allow either the A.C. or the D.C. apparatus to be used. The electrodes E may be of the consumable or non-consumable type.
