Abstract

1, 112, 855. Magnetic thickness gauge. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. April 27, 1967 [April 29, 1966], No. 18964/66. Heading G1N. A gauge for measuring the thickness of a non- magnetic coating on magnetic material comprises a resiliently mounted magnet with means for measuring the attraction (between the magnet and the magnetic material). In Fig. 1 (not shown) the magnet is mounted in a liquid filled bellows and the attraction indicated by a liquid column. In Fig 2 (not shown) the magnet is mounted on a blade spring and its upper part rubs against a small roller carrying a pointer. The spring may be given a variable rate by suitable mounting e. g. as in Fig. 3 (not shown) to make the scale more linear.
