Abstract

1,112,779. Helically-wound containers. GEE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. 1 Dec., 1966 [4 Dec., 1965], No. 51548/65. Heading B8D. [Also in Divisions B5 and F2] A container body is formed by laminating a web A of paper or cardboard with a wider web B of moisture-impervious material so that the edges of the latter extend beyond the paper or cardboard web edges, turning one edge B<SP>1</SP> only of the impervious web about the adjacent edge A<SP>1</SP> of the paper or cardboard web to seal said adjacent edge whilst leaving the other impervious web edge B<SP>2</SP> free, and helically winding the composite web into tubular form so that the sealed edge A<SP>1</SP> overlaps the free edge B<SP>2</SP> of the impervious web and is adhered thereto. As shown, the impervious web is disposed internally of the formed container and additional outer webs of C and D are provided. Web C may be of paper or cardboard and web D may be a printed label. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a second composite web is wound as the first to form a container having internal and external moisture-impervious layers. The moisture-impervious web may be of metal foil, such as aluminium foil, or synthetic plastics, such as polythene.
