Abstract
1,111,537. Cooling electric motors. STAL REFRIGERATION AKTIEBOLAG. 1 Nov., 1966 [1 April, 1966; 18 April, 1966], No. 48832/66. Heading F4U. A hermetically sealed refrigerant compressor comprises an electric motor having a rotor 4 and stator 5, a compressor 2 and a pump 9 which circulates oil from a sump 8 through an external oil cooler 11 and a pipe 12 to the top of the compressor casing for distribution over the stator 5. The oil flows first over a bearing bracket 6, which is preferably formed with radial grooves or ribs, and then over the outside of the stator before returning to the sump. The upper end of the motor shaft 6 preferably is formed with or carries an oil-receiving cup (Fig. 2, not shown) which flings the oil against an overlying baffle arranged to direct the oil over bracket 6. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a chamber for receiving incoming refrigerant gas is provided in the upper part of the compressor casing and conduits are provided for conveying the gas from the chamber to the compressor inlet.
