Abstract

An elastic fabric contains core-spun yarns consisting of a spandex filament surrounded by dyed wool fibres, the twist multiple being at least 3 and the spandex consisting not more than 20% by weight. The fabric may be one-way stretch, or may be two-way stretch with the same kind of yarns in both disections or with nylon stretch yarns in one direction. The fabric is finished by scouring and heat setting in either order. Scouring is effected at open width by crabbing at not more than 71 DEG C and at pH1 to 8 during which the fabric may be kept taut or allowed to relax in the elastic disection (but not enough to become bulked). Heat setting under tension is effected at 160-200 DEG C for 30-90 secs., the fabric being cooled below 70 DEG C before removing the tension. Treatment with thermosetting or thermoplastic resin may be applied after crabbing.
