Abstract
1,110,573. Vehicle wheels. MICHELIN & CIE (COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELIN). 27 July, 1965 [28 July, 1964; 25 Sept., 1964; 30 April, 1965], No. 32131/65. Heading B7C. In a wheel rim having a detachable rim flange ring 33 held in place by a split-ring 17 the joint between the flange ring and rim base is sealed by an annular resilient gasket 38 held in a radially compressed condition in an annular recess closed at its axially inner end. The gasket may be of natural or synthetic rubber, and initially of circular or semi-circular cross-section. A metal ring or similar gasket may be inserted between gasket 38 and the splitring 17. The rim base 30 and flange ring 33 may have integral (Figs. 1, 3--6, not shown), or detachable rim flanges 32, 35. To facilitate insertion of the gasket the axially outer edge of the flange ring is curved or conical, a tangent at the point of contact thereof with the gasket during insertion being between 15 and 25 degrees to the rim axis.
