Abstract
1,110,417. Economizers; baffles. DAVEY, PAXMAN & CO. Ltd. 3 June, 1965 [20 Oct., 1964], No. 23709/65. Headings F4A, F4B and F4S. An economizer 1 for a shell boiler, having a cold feed water inlet 2 at its bottom and a hot feed water outlet 3 at its top to promote vertical temperature stratification, is provided with means to ensure a graduated heat transfer from the smoke tubes ranging from a maximum from the tubes 4 passing through the hottest water, to a minimum from the tubes 6 passing through the coldest water. This may be effected by baffles 7, 8 of different lengths disposed in the tubes, or by using tubes of different diameters, or by controlling the velocities of flue gases flowing to the individual tubes.
