Abstract
1,109,933. Mechanical cyclic timing device. AVCO CORPORATION. 12 Aug., 1965 [31 Aug., 1964], No. 34563/65. Heading F2X. An escapement providing intermittent rotation of an arm 23 comprises a rotatable threaded shaft 11, a universally pivoted arm 13 engaged by the thread for movement along the shaft, a clutch 25, 28 actuated by the arm 13 at one end of its traverse to rotate the arm 23 through a single revolution, and a bar 40 to lift the arm 13 from engagement with the thread and permit it to be returned to the start of the thread for another traverse. The bar 40 is connected by a yoke 39 and pins 38 with the driven member of the clutch and lifts the arm against the resistance of a return spring 17 when the driven member has completed a revolution. A pin 26 on the driving member of the clutch co-operates with an arcuate groove 27 on the driven part. A spring-loaded brake shoe co-operates with the outer periphery of the latter which is profiled to provide a braking action at the end of each revolution. The maximum return travel of the arm 13 is limited by a fixed stop; an intermediate adjustable stop is also provided to allow the time interval between revolutions to be shortened. A variable speed drive from an input shaft 30 permits finer adjustments of the interval to be effected. The arm 23 may operate the gates of the cattle feeder of Specification 1,095,579.
