1,109,532. Conveying by buoyancy. TOSAGGO RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (PROPRIETARY) Ltd. 6 May; 1966 [6 May, 1965], No. 20298/66. Heading B8A. The base 11 of a conveyer trough for slabshaped articles such as cigarette cartons is provided with two rows of jets 16, the rows being parallel to corrugated side walls 10 and the jets in each row being inclined towards the other row. The trough is mounted either on a chamber 12 to which compressed air is fed or in the bottom of a chamber. (14), Fig. 2 (not shown), which is connected adjacent its top to a source of suction. The articles are conveyed along the trough either by inclining the trough in the direction of travel at a small angle, e.g. twenty minutes, or by providing a horizontal trough with propelling jets-located between the two rows of cushioning jets and inclined towards the direction of travel. Mechanical pushers at intervals along the length of the conveyer may also be provided.
