Abstract

1,109,421. Street posts. A. E. WALKER. 3 May. 1965 [3 Feb., 1964], No. 1496/64. Heading E1B. In a lamp or other street standard divided at ground level into upper and lower portions 18, 11 connected, e.g. by a shear bolt 22, or split pin 28 so as to yield on impact with a colliding vehicle, a microswitch 17 controlling the lamp supply is fixed to the lower portion and actuated by a screw 25 in the upper portion, so as to avoid the exposure of live wires following a collision. As shown the switch 17 and screw 25 are carried by plates 14, 24 coupled by the shear bolt 22 and bolted to a respective flange on the portions 11, 18. The switching device is also applicable to the frangible lamp standard connections shown in Specification 1,087,073.
