Abstract

1,108,681. Rotary printing-machines; inking-apparatus. MIEHLE-GOSS DEXTER Inc. 10 Jan., 1966, No. 1067/66. Heading B6C. A printing-machine is arranged to be capable of utilizing plate cyclinders 14 of various diameters. A doctor blade holder 105 is pivoted on a shaft 132 whereby it can be rocked to adjust the blade for various cylinder widths. A front cover 20 is hinged to a plate 22. An ink trough 52 in which the cylinder rotates is pivoted so as to be raised and lowered according to the diameter of the cylinder. A deflector blade 58 to remove most of the excess ink is pivoted and adjustable by screws 62. The upper parts of the ends of the cylinder are protected by adjustable plates 46. The doctor blade 100 is held between jaws 102, 104, the jaw 104 being opened by rotating a hand wheel 148, Fig. 2. The shaft 132 is coupled to a shaft 170 reciprocable to reciprocate the blade, and is adjusted with respect to the cylinder by rotating a hand wheel 176, Fig. 2, to actuate a linkage between the shaft 170 and a shaft 162 rotatable by the wheel. An interceptor 190, Fig. 2, is set to limit the movement of the wheel according to the cylinder diameter. The blade holder causes a flexible seal strip 47 secured to a splash plate 36. The cover 20 carries a sealing strip 42. Ink is prevented from leaking from the ends of the blade by end seals secured to the side plates 10, (12), and shown in Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The bottom of the ink chamber is defined by a plate 24, below which is an ink storage reservoir (32).
