Abstract

Synthetic-resin impregnated decorative sheets of paper printed in colour with a decorative wood grain and provided with an embossed finish are obtained by impregnating the decorative sheet with an emulsion or solution of a hardenable synthetic resin followed by drying and embossing during or after which the recesses of the embossed pattern are coloured with a dye which is darker than the colour of the decorative sheet. Preferably the relief points of the embossing roller are supplied with dye thus effecting embossing and dyeing together, alternatively a thin film of dye can be applied to the entire surface of the decorative sheet after embossing, the dye being introduced into the recesses by means of a doctor roll or friction roll and the excess dye removed. If the embossing roller is heated the latter dyeing process is employed.
