Abstract

<PICT:1108498/C6-C7/1> In vacuum treatment plant of the type in which metal is intermittently drawn up into a degasification vessel through a pipe extending downwardly into a ladle, gas is introduced into the metal by means of a pipe extending along or through the wall of the entry pipe and terminating in a porous refractory cap which is detachably secured to the terminal end of the pipe and projects inwardly from the wall of the pipe. In a preferred embodiment, (Fig. 2) refractory cap 9 is mounted by means of an internal thread on an intermediate spigot 10 which in turn screws into sleeve 15 attached to the end of gas supply pipe 8.
