Abstract

1,106,668. Burning lean gas. ALCORN COMBUSTION CO. 26 March, 1966, No. 13479/66. Heading F4B. In a lean gas fired apparatus, lean gas from a plenum 17 is mixed with air from ports 27 in a conduit 26 and burned with additional air from ports 22 to form a whirling stream of burning gas opposing the outflow of gases through ports 34 to a heat recovery section 39. Auxiliary burners 39 are arranged to deliver to the inside of the burning gas vortex, and the combustion chamber is lined with heat storing refractory. A lip 33, cooled by metal member 36 projecting into air cooled passage 38, is formed in the combustion chamber wall above the outlet 34 to promote the formation of the flame vortex, and baffles are arranged in the outlet 34 to regulate the outflow through the passage 34.
