Abstract

1,106,320. Reactors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 7 Oct., 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 45000/66. Heading G6C. A proportional counter neutron detector is associated with a nuclear reactor and a digital circuit to evoluate the reactor doubling time defined by the expression where T D = doubling time, n = number of neutrons, A = reaction rate at time t = 0. The detector output passes to a multivibrator stage and then to consecutive stages of bi-stable multi-vibrators, the outputs of which are supplied by a logic unit and are then counted and compared with an electronic clock reference. Gamma ray discrimination is effected by a threshold analyzer. It is shown that with a large number of bi-stable multi-vibrators, the switching time of the bent bi-stable is approximately equal to the required value of T D .
