Abstract

1,106,081. Milling; shearing. HUGH SMITH (GLASGOW) Ltd., and D. C. JEFFREY. 4 March, 1965 [10 March, 1964], No. 10019/64. Headings B3B, B3K and B3W. A machine for profiling the edges of bars or sheets 17 comprises a bridge 13 spanning a work-table 1, a carriage 4 movable on guideways 2, 3 adjacent the table and carrying three electric motors, and mechanical or fluid - pressure workclamping means 14 depending from the bridge, one motor 5 having a milling cutter 6 on its spindle and being mounted for angular adjustment and for vertical adjustment by another motor 10 driving a screw 9, and the other motor 12 being a traversing motor geared to a rack on the machine bed. Angular adjustment of the motor 5 is effected by a motor 11. The carriage guides 2, 3 have phenolic surfaces. The machine includes a shearing blade 18, Fig. 2, co-operating with a hardened steel strip 19, so that plates may be sheared before profiling.
