Abstract

A temperature - sensitive semiconductor device (e.g. a thyristor) is used to sense the temperature of the liquid in the tub of a washing machine, and to switch off the heating when a predetermined temperature is reached or to advance the programme control. The device is provided with a selector switch to set the control voltage or current of the device and hence the switching temperature. As described, the switch puts different resistors in series with the gate electrode of a thyristor thereby to control the gate current. These resistors are preferably in thermal connection with the thyristor so that all these components are always at the same temperature.
