Abstract
Pellets of magnetic iron oxide and coke suitable for roasting in a furnace, are produced by roasting iron ore to form magnetic iron oxide, separating and agglomerating the oxide with coke in finely divided form. The coke may be petroleum coke obtained by a fluidized bed process. The pellets, which may contain a flux, may be hardened by heating gradually to a temperature from 1200 DEG to 1300 DEG C. The pellets contain sufficient coke to ensure reduction of all the magnetic iron oxide to iron.
