Abstract
1,103,496. Closing bags. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 14 Sept., 1966 [1 Oct., 1965], No. 41796/65. Heading B8C. A bag 11 containing an article 10 is advanced by a conveyer to a tying station, Fig. 4A, where, whilst the article is stationary, two pairs of tuckers 16, 17 close on the open bag end to form a neck 15A, around which a tape 24, Fig. 5, fed on to a movable former 25, is folded to U-shape and the ends twisted by a rotary twister 29. In the embodiment described, as the bag 11 is moved to the tying station by paddles 12 of the conveyer, the opposite sides of the open end of the bag are moved towards each other by upper and lower ploughs (13, 14) (Fig. 1, not shown). At the tying station, the tuckers 16, 17 are cammed inwards to form the neck 15A, whereupon the tape 24 is severed from the supply by coacting knives 26, 27 upon upward movement of the former 25. After twisting the tape ends together, the former 25 is retracted and the twister 29 rotated a small amount in the opposite direction to free the tape ends.
