Abstract

1,103,463. Straddle carrier vehicles. BRITISH STRADDLE CARRIER CO. Ltd. 11 Oct., 1965 [11 July, 1964], No. 29209/64. Heading B8H. [Also in Division B7] A straddle carrier vehicle comprises a chassis 12 supported on wheels 9 and provided with rollers 18 for guiding posts 17 secured to a body 15 which is supported by hydraulic rams 16 on the chassis 12 and which is provided with a control cabin 45 and with a lift mechanism 11 for raising and lowering load supports 20 relative to the body 15. The load supports 20 are mounted on side members 19 which are suspended by links 21 from beams 22. The beams 22 are connected by chains 28 passing around sprockets 31, Fig. 2, secured to the piston-rods 30 of hydraulic rams 29 mounted within the body 15. The beams 22 are connected by a cross-bar 24 supporting an hydraulic ram 25 adapted to pivot arms 23, secured to the side members 19, outwardly and inwardly to disengage from or engage with a load container 8. A valve assembly, Fig. 5 (not shown), is provided to synchronize operation of the four rams 16.
