Abstract
1,103,320. Spectrometers. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Sept.19, 1966 [Oct. 8, 1965j, No.42886/65. Heading G2J. Spectrometric apparatus comprises a Czerny- Turner mounting in which the conventional object and image slits 25, 31 are both used as object slits and an image slit 30, 35 is positioned optically close to each of the object slits so as to provide a double beam instrument. The image slits 30, 35 are defined by apertured mirrors and photocells 32, 36 are positioned to receive light of selected spectral lines which passes through the image slits, while further photo-cells 33, 37 receive reflected background light. The apparatus is used, for example, to determine the oxygen and nitrogen contents of steel samples. The oxygen and nitrogen spectra of a sample are excited in a chamber having two windows through each of which one of the spectra is observed. Light from the two windows is passed through the object slits 28, 31 into the spectrometer.
