Abstract
1,103,271. Rotary pumps. R.C. FORD, P. J. SKIPPER and J.V. VOBE. Sept. 17, 1964 [June 21, 1963], No. 24701/63. Heading F1F. In a rotary pump of the nutating-disc type, spherical journals 2a and associated bearings 5 for a nutatable disc-like pumping-member 1 are sealed relative to working chambers 7 on either side of said member by flexible members 21a made of e.g. rubber or synthetic plastics material, each of which may be integral with a lining 21 for a truncated conical surface 6 on an outer body or casing 3, the journals 2a being attached to a pin 15 that rotatably engages with an eccentric inclined bore 16 in a driving-shaft 17. Radial shutter-blades 11 are pivotally attached to the member 1 by rivets 13 to separate a pair of fluid inlet-ports (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), and a pair of fluid outlet-ports (10) from one another, said ports being situated in the casing 3 on either side of slots 12 containing the free edges of the shutter-blades. The member 1 has a covering 14 made of e.g. rubber or synthetic plastics material. A second embodiment of the pump, Fig. 4 (not shown), mainly differs from that shown in Fig. 1 in that the member 1 has an integral tubular sleeve (29) rotatably engaging with an oblique portion (25) of the driving-shaft (27). In a third embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), has the integral tubular sleeve (29) rotatably engaging with the oblique portion (25) of the driving-shaft (27), as in the embodiment according to Fig.4, and carries part-spherical sealing members (40) that slidingly engage with a slot (41) defined by the casing 3 and sleeves (35, 36) surrounding the driving-shaft. Flexible sealing-members (43) made of e.g. rubber or synthetic plastics material, are attached to the sleeve (29) and tubular bodies (44) supporting bearings (26) for said shaft. The member 1 has a facing (37, 39) made of e.g. glass fibres, and a peripheral sealing-ring (45) made of e.g. rubber or synthetic plastics material such as P.T.F.E. The shutter-blades 11 may be made of or coated with P.T.F.E. to minimize friction.
