Abstract

1,103,129. Creels. HAMEL PROJEKTIERRUNGS UND VERWALTUNGS A.G. 1, July, 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 29663/66. Heading D1J. . Each bobbin supporting spindle 2, in a creel frame 3, is provided with a spindle extension 2<SP>1</SP> projecting at least 100 mm. beyond the end of the bobbin, there being a thread guide 4 co-axial with each spindle such that the angle formed by a line connecting the outer end of an extension with the thread guide of an adjacent spindle is not less than 30‹. The purpose of this is to prevent a broken thread from one bobbin being caught up in the thread running off from another bobbin. As shown in Fig. 1 the thread from the central bobbin has fractured and dropped down so as to snarl with the thread 5 running off from the lowermost bobbin 1. During this period a few turns of thread from the middle bobbin are carried by the oblique pull on to the extension 2<SP>1</SP> of the spindle 2. The resulting friction on the thread extending between the lowermost thread guide 4 and the spindle extension 2<SP>1</SP> of the middle spindle 2 causes the thread extending therebetween to fracture. The surface of each extension may be roughened and/or profiled; a helical groove may be formed in said surface; a catch member may be formed at the free end of each extension, for example, an annular groove or an enlarged head.
