Abstract

1,103,097. Excavating of trenches. JOSEF RIEPL. 25, April, 1966 [23, April, 1965], No. 17951/66. Heading E1F. A method' of forming trenches in ground having rock strata underlying soft earth strata involves drilling parallel bores through the rock stratum or strata before or after removal of the soft stratum or strata and percussively shattering the rock stratum when exposed so that the shattered rock can be easily removed. Preferably the trench as it is being formed is filled with a thixotropic suspension to prevent cave in.
