Abstract
1,102,632. Sabot projectiles. OERLIKONBUHRLE HOLDING A.G. 21 July, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 32893/66. Heading F3A. A projectile body 11 is retained in a sabot 10 by means of a disc-shaped connecting piece 14 which is bonded to the rear face of the projectile body, e.g. soldered, and is sandwiched between a shoulder 103 on the sabot and a screw-in member 15, provided with a recess 16, the inner edge of which provides a shearing edge. On firing, the projectile body due to inertia, moves relatively to the member 15 and the shearing edge shears through the rim of the connecting piece. The connecting piece may be provided on its rear or front side with a truncated circular core tapering rearwardly and may carry a container holding a tracer composition. Driving bands 12, 13 are provided on the sabot.
